IJV Statement on Post-Referendum Racism
Leave a commentJuly 13, 2016 by IJV
We in IJV deplore the upsurge of racism towards minority groups after
the Referendum result, and the unwelcoming atmosphere fostered by much
of the debate during the campaign. Many of us are descendants of Jewish
migrants to Britain, who sought refuge here in flight from persecution
in Europe, or searching for a better life. Today, we are alarmed at the
prospect of European nationals in this country feeling that their
position is uncertain and wish to express our solidarity with them.
Equally, we oppose the hostility unleashed towards members of
long-standing non-European communities resident in this country and to
more recent migrants from the Middle East, sub-Saharan Africa and
elsewhere who are today in great need of British protection and
hospitality.
